I can help in all stages of the
development of your web site, either starting afresh for that
unique look or being happy to use your existing graphics to
keep your corporate identity.
The Design Process:
- Initial Consultation
A detailed chat about any aspect of the process of getting
yourself on-line.
- Estimate
When the design and layout have been agreed, I will send
you a draft estimate detailing exactly what will be done,
how long it will take and how much it will cost.
- Development
Once I start working on the site, it will be put on-line, but it will be only possible to be viewed only by you and myself. This will give you the opportunity to watch your site develop and to make any changes to the site before it becomes public.
- Completion
Once the process of final refinement has been completed
and your final approval has been granted, I will upload
your site to your web space. I will then undertake any post-development
tasks that may have been agreed (for example, registering
your site with search engines). Once the site has been created
and paid in full, it is your property.
- Maintenance
Once your site is up and running this is only the start of an ongoing relationship. You can always contact me if you have any queries. I can also provide maintenance services to keep your site updated.

Tips on design
and content
- Your site should be easy to navigate with clearly descriptive buttons.
- Ensure that your photographs are of a good quality.
- Your site should load quickly-too many large images is a big no-no. I will always attempt to get the best quality image at the lowest possible download time.
- Keep special effects to a minimum-they can draw your visitors attention away from what you have to say, and can be somewhat irritating.
- Content is crucial to the success of your site. This is
the reason people are visiting your site. They are looking
for good information. You should decide what type and form
of information you want to include at an early stage.
- You may feel that you are saving costs by putting all
your content into one page. In fact, most people will not
want to scroll down, to find what they are looking for.
The best solution is to have around 350 words per page.
Keep your content snappy and to the point, dividing it into
logical sections. Click here for the Content Checklist.
- Don't forget to run a spell check through your content.
- If your logo uses an unusual font, you cannot use this
font for your entire content. Different computers have different
default fonts, so your web site may look slightly different
on other computers. I will select a complementary font for
you from the standard ones instead. If you decide that you
definitely would like some of your text in an unusual font
- if there is very little text - it can be created as an
image for you, but this will increase your download time
slightly.
- If you already have an identity for your company, let your
web site reflect this.
- To encourage visitors to return to your site, update it regularly!
